God be with ye

November 16, 2008

I woke up yesterday morning wondering where does goodbye come from. I mean, do you ever wonder? Why do we say ‘goodbye’ when we part? And I always have people asking what’s the ‘good’ in goodbye. You know?

A dear friend left on a jet plane yesterday. I didn’t get to say my goodbye’s. I am not good in these kind of things anyway. But if there’s a remote chance that she’ll end up here, I would like her to know that she is already missed. And while the world is not as big as one thinks, I do hope she picks up the phone when I call. I’m too old for late-night IM and skype. But I do wish her the best, and a reminder that I will send her the part of her she left behind.

Goodbye, it seems, came from God be with ye. Fitting, don’t you think so?

So dear friend, ’till we meet again, God be with you.
